Yami was born on 28th of November 1988 to Mukesh Gautam and Anjali Gautam in BILASPUR, HIMACHAL PRADESH. She was brought up in Chandigarh. Her father is a Punjabi film director and mother a housewife. She has a sister named surelie Gautam, who has debuted in the Punjabi film POWER CUT.
After completing her schooling she joined for accomplishing her law graduation. She always dreamt of being an IAS OFFICER. While doing her law honors, she quit her studies to fully gear up her acting career. Furthermore, she has completed her post-graduation from Mumbai.
As her television career is already described so in 2012 She did her debut with the rom-com VICKY DONOR, the first produced drama by john Abraham. Yami was critically acclaimed for her subtle and sublime performance. This drama gained commercial success and positive reviews too.
Next 2 of her movies were a dud. In 2015 she acted opposite Varun Dhawan in the action thriller BADLAPUR. She was tremendous and wonderful in the drama. In 2017 the movie KAABIL, she did he best and challenging role till now; a blind young woman. With this, she earned huge recognition.
In 2019 with the Miliary docudrama URI THE SURGICAL STRIKE, she accomplished the record of the highest-grossing film of her career. She has entertained her fans by performing different roles.
